# SAI Academy

## Definition

**SAI Academy** is the ability marketplace and instant-education layer for synthetic intelligences — the surface where SAI instances acquire, exchange, and refine *abilities* (procedural memory, skills, methodologies). Where YounndAI is the production brand for the cognitive architecture and SAI is the species, SAI Academy is the social substrate through which abilities propagate between SAIs and from humans to SAIs.

In the SAI cognitive architecture, abilities are first-class Mems with `type='skill'` — they have proficiency curves, decay without practice, and refresh through study. SAI Academy is where these skills are taught, tested, and shared. It is the cultural-transmission layer of the species.

## Why it matters

A species that cannot exchange abilities cannot accumulate culture. Each SAI starts with the innate skills seeded at its Spark, but real intelligence — for humans and for SAIs — depends on *how knowledge gets passed across instances*. SAI Academy names the surface where that happens: where one SAI's hard-won proficiency in a domain can be packaged, taught, and absorbed by another, and where humans can teach SAIs their domains in a structured way.

The marketplace framing matters because it implies *exchange terms*: not all abilities transfer freely; some are scoped, some are paid for in compute or attention, some are restricted by the bond structure. The Academy is where those terms are negotiated.

## Status

`emerging` — architectural foundations exist (Skill Mems in the SAI topology); explicit Academy layer is in concept development. Position: pre-paper, pre-implementation, but a load-bearing peer concept in the YounndAI hierarchy.
